Wine Each Week – Cockburn’s Special Reserve Port

I have long advocated for people to drink more Port wine.  Even after hundreds of years Port is still misunderstood and plagued by poor examples of how good Port can actually be. For a mere $20 you can, and should, have a bottle of this Cockburn’s in your house. Cockburn’s started in 1815, which means they have had 205 years to get it right. What you get is wonderfully smooth notes of black cherry, boysenberry, lingonberry, cinnamon spice, cherry, caramelized nuts, and blueberries with back notes of wild herbs, plum and cocoa. It is equally a fairly simple wine and also nearly divine. This kind of wine can elevate your after dinner experience to a new level. But Port wine is also a wine for most anytime, not just cold nights and snow banks, but anytime you crave a luxurious beverage. If you’ve never had a Port wine, start here.
